Posted almost 4 years ago

Join Compassion & Choices on Wednesday, October 27th from 12:30-2:00pm HST for "Letʻs Talk Details: A Deep Dive with Medical Aid-In-Dying Navigators."

This session will focus on case example from experience Hawaiʻi nurse and social worker navigators, who will share key learnings, challenges and best practices from their nearly three years of practice under the law.

Learn about the navigatorʻs role in supporting both patient and providers in the medical aid-in-dying process, including partnering with hospice, being non-judgmental, providing education, coordination and resources, and being present at the patientʻs death if requested. Gain an understanding of the importance of training others by sharing experiences and facilitating staff debriefs after a case. Hear illuminating examples of patient and family conversations regarding medical aid in dying from experts Susan Amina, Nurse Practitioner, Kaiser Permanente; Michelle Cantillo, Registered Nurse & Advance Care Planning Coordinator, Hawaii Pacific Health; and Jodi Shaw, Licensed Social Worker, CCM, OSW-C, APHSW-C, Kaiser Permanente.

In support of improving patient care, Hawaiʻi Pacific Health is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provided continuing education for the healthcare team.
