Hawaiʻi - American Nurses Association is seeking candidates for the 12th Annual American Nurses Advocacy Institute (ANAI).
If selected the candidate will be provided with a $350 scholarship to pay for the cost of the course.
This year-long mentored program kicks off virtually Sunday, October 10th and continues through Tuesday, October 12th
Hawaiʻi-ANA will assign a mentor with whom the individual can work within the state.
Qualifications
- Is a member in good standing with Hawaiʻi - American Nurses Association and American Nurses Association (ANA).
- Has been actively engaged with Hawaiʻi-ANA and /or ANA for at least one year, preferably related to policy and/or grassroots activity.
- Has demonstrated leadership identified by an employer (reference) or Hawaiʻi-ANA.
Responsibilities
Will commit to full participation in:
- The virtual sessions held from Sunday through Tuesday
- Discussion Calls - held every other month (total 5 - 1 hour each) - during which time participants will provide state updates as well as engage in a deep dive into topics such as: Conducting a political environmental scan; Bill Analysis; Creating and Delivering Testimony; The Ins and Outs of Coalitions; The Value of Political Action Committees (PAC) and what can you do if you don't have a PAC in your state
- Execute a policy action plan or series of activities as agreed to with Hawaiʻi-ANA leadership.
- Provide updates to the Hawaiʻi-ANA Board of Directors as requested.
- Educate Hawaiʻi-ANA members related to policy activities by: contributing to column(s) in The Hawaiʻi Nurse newsletter; present at annual Hawaiʻi-ANA policy, legislative / lobby day and/or serve as the Hawaiʻi-ANA "go to" contact for legislators within their district.
Expenses
The registration fee has been reduced this year for the completely virtual experience $350.
Scholarships will be awarded by ANA (by lottery). Both the applicant and Hawaiʻi-ANA Leadership will be notified prior to registration in June. If not selected for ANA scholarship, Hawaiʻi-ANA will determine if the individual meets requirements to be awarded a $350 scholarship by Hawaiʻi-ANA.
Those who complete the program will be eligible to receive contact hours.
