Letter to Biden/Harris Transition Team
American Nurses Association provided a letter to the Biden/Harris Transition team outlining ANA’s priorities and where we stand ready to assist and provide expertise for the transition and the upcoming Administration. Please read the letter as well as a blog from ANA’s Vice President of Policy and Government Affairs, Ingrida Lusis, on all the activities underway as ANA looks ahead to 2021.
PPE - Share Your Voice Survey
In August, more than 20,000 nurses responding to the second PPE survey from the American Nurses Foundation and ANA confirmed PPE shortages persist and resuse of single-use PPE is on the rise. These survey results help us amplify nursesʻ challenges and concerns with the media and legistlative and regulatory agencies.
Once again, the Foundation and ANA want to understand nursesʻ access to and usage of PPE right now It is critical we hear from you on the PPE situation you are experiencing over the last two weeks in Hawaiʻi. The survey will be open from Wednesday, November 11th through Wednesday, December 2nd. The survey takes only a few minutes. Click here!
If you are interested in how Hawaiʻi Nurses responded to the last PPE survey check out our Hawaiʻi Nurse Quarterly Newsletter where we highlight the major challenges and deficiencies in PPE from August 2020.
ANA Statement on Asymptomatic COVID-19 Positive Nurses Providing Care
The American Nurses Association (ANA) is very disappointed that eight months into the COVID-19 pandemic, community spread of the virus is widespread and accelerating, resulting in unprecedented numbers of new cases and high levels of hospitalizations in urban and rural areas in many states. This surge places pressure on health care systems and hospitals to implement crisis standards of care, such as requesting that nurses who are COVID-19 positive continue to work and provide patient care. ANA maintains that COVID-19 positive nurses have the right to choose whether they are well enough to work. Under no circumstances should a nurse be pressured to work, and employers should never retaliate against nor penalize a nurse for choosing to prioritize self-care.
